My daughter is working on her introduction...well actually she wrote it out but it needs some editing. She's not so sure about this blogging thing. She has a lot of ideas but once it gets to "show time" she draws a blank....ha ha....she gets that honestly.
I have had some awesome blog ideas but then when it comes time to pound these keys...it's gone. I lay here at night & it's so awesome in my head but then once my fingers hit these keys...I draw a blank. But I guess that comes with time...well I hope it does because if it don't this is blog is not going to be long lived.
We are sitting at home today. The hubster is busy so the kids & I are boarded up in my room watching movies. Well not really the kids, they are coming & going depending on what movie is playing but me, I've been in my room all day.
I think living with others has really began to get to me. I'm isolating myself from others in the house. I can't wait to get our own place, we've found it just waiting on the biggest part of it....the cash!!! Shouldn't be too long though....I pray!!!
I read this on facebook earlier & I wanted to share it with y'all because it really made me & my daughter think.
Grandmother says...carrots, eggs, or coffee; which are you?
A young woman went to her grandmother & told her about her life & how things were so hard for her. She did not know how she was going to make it & wanted to give up. She was tired of fighting & struggling. It seemed as one problem was solved a new one arose.
Her grandmother took her to the kitchen. She filled three pots with water. In the first, she placed carrots, in the second she placed eggs & in the last she placed ground coffee beans. She let them sit & boil without saying a word.
In about twenty minutes she turned off the burners. She fished the carrots out & placed them in a bowl. She pulled the eggs out & placed them in a bowl. Then she ladled the coffee out & placed it in a bowl.Turning to her granddaughter she asked, "Tell me what you see?"
"Carrots, eggs, & coffee," she replied.
She brought her closer & asked her to feel the carrots. She did & noted that they got soft. She then asked her to take an egg & break it.
After pulling off the shell, she observed the hard boiled egg.
Finally, she asked her to sip the coffee. The granddaughter smiled, as she tasted it's rich aroma. The granddaughter then asked, "What's the point, grandmother?"
Her grandmother explained that each of these objects had faced the same adversity-boiling water-but each reacted differently.
The carrot went in strong, hard & unrelenting. However, after being subjected to the boiling water, it softened & became weak. The egg had been fragile. It's thin outer shell had protected it's liquid interior. But, after sitting through the boiling water, its inside became hardened.
The ground coffee beans were unique, however. After they were in the boiling water they had changed the water.
"Which are you?" she asked her granddaughter.
"When adversity knocks on your door, how do you respond? Are you a carrot, an egg, or a coffee bean?"
Think of this: Which am I?
Am I the carrot that seems strong, but with pain & adversity, do I wilt & become soft & lost my strength?
Am I the egg that starts with a malleable heart, but changes with the heat? Did I have a fluid spirit, but after a death, a breakup, a financial hardship or some other trial, have I become hardened & stiff?
Does my shell look the same, but on the inside am I bitter & tough with a stiff spirit & hardened heart?
Or am I like the coffee bean? The bean actually changes the hot water, the very circumstance that brings the pain. When the water gets hot it releases the fragrance & flavor. If you are like the bean, when things are at their worst, you get better & change the situation around you.
When the hours are the darkest & trials are their greatest do you elevate to another level?
~UNKNOWN ARTHUR
That will sure make ya think huh? Well it did me & my daughter. She said she was a carrot, she wasn't even going to try to lie about it but that she was going to try to change & be a coffee bean. I'm somewhere in between all three....but I am going to try to think of this every time I have something hard going on to remind me to be a coffee bean. Which are you?
